| FOREWORD
David Steward
has come up with an idea that betters the way
we live and work. The idea that he embodies is
not actually new--it is a 2000-year-old philosophy
that makes as much sense today as it did back
then.
In 1990, when Dave Steward founded his St. Louis-based
World Wide Technology, his mission was to build
a successful company based on teachings he had
learned from the Bible. He believes individual
values should not be separated from corporate
values, and he adheres to the philosophy that
good ethics is good business. He contends that
the same qualities of integrity, trust, commitment,
and loyalty that we expect from our friends and
family are also appropriate in the workplace.
David's mission is to make a positive difference
in other people's lives, to produce a better quality
of life for those he touches--his employees, as
well as his vendors and customers. "We're here
to serve each other," he says. "As CEO, my first
priority is to serve my employees. Properly done,
this attitude will permeate my organization and
carry over to those we do business with--and we
will be successful."
David Steward has been successful, building a
billion-dollar company identified by Black Enterprise
as the largest African-American-owned company
in 2000. His story of success epitomizes the American
Dream, and his example is an inspiration to us
all.
